Explosions in the Sky - Postcards from 1952
This Austin quartet is simply amazing. From their first record they’ve been nailing this “post-rock” genre right in the head. Mark Smith and Munaf Rayani on the guitars, Michael James on the Bass guitar and Christopher Hrasky on the drums, make this band sound as good as it gets. Their songs are instrumental and play nicely with every other indie video that is online, for a spec, for anything… their music is unbelievable.
Here is their latest video for the single “Postcard from 1952” from their 7th record “Take care, take care, take care” released on 2011.
Enjoy!
Buena Vista Social Club parte II: Gracias Nick Gold por haber puesto tanto sabor junto… Highly recommended.
Beach House - Myth
Since 2005, Baltimore’s dreamy pop duo conformed by Victoria Lebrand and Alex Scally, has been delivering this hypnotic trip that sounds like a jump in a trampoline at 5000 frames per second.
This song is part of their fourth album “Bloom” that without a doubt is the masterpiece of this band. The entire record is amazing, and with songs like “Wishes”, “Troublemaker”, “On the sea” and “New Year” there is no doubt, at all, how far they are going to go.
Happy friday.
The Wood Brothers - One More Day
Yes, is not a catchy name, they are actually real brothers: Oliver and Chris Wood. Given this spectacular blend of folk, rock, blues and jazzy sounds, they where picked up by Blue Note Records back in 2006 and produced by John Medeski -yes, the same one from Medeski, Martin and Wood- with which they released their first album “Ways not to lose”, that was top ranked by Amazon.com’s editors that year. Now, three albums later and some other record labels involved including their own “Southern Ground” that released their last two albums, they decide to put on a record what they do best: play live.
Enjoy!
Tupac hologram at Coachella with Snoop Dogg or how to make everybody ask “since when has hologram technology reached this mindblowing level of sophistication” Even if you’re not a Hip-Hop fan makes you conclude this is somewhat amazing.
Simian Mobile Disco - Cerulean
This fantastic british electronica duo conformed by the electronic pioneers, producers and Dj’s James Ford and Jas Shaw, is coming out with their fourth album, “Unpatterns” which comes back to their weird initial sound of that “prog-psychedelic” feel of those very first Simian songs. It’s a testimony of the learnings from plenty of dancehall experience and a revival of their analog-infused sound. They describe this album as “full of love, dedication, hard-earned experience, obvious understanding of decades of electronic music from across scenes and styles, and huge fun.”
And it shows.
Cerulean hits home for SMD, complemented by this captivating retro nintentoish video visualized by Jack Featherstone and Will Samuel.
Enjoy!
Radio Citizen - The Hop
My most sincere apologies to anyone who has ever considered themselves a Notafacil follower and to my own self, damn it, for abandoning one of the things that I enjoy most. You know, the habit of the nine to five can become seven to ten and then… oh shit, I’m rambling…
Anyhow, I figured I should make a return to this forum in the same manner in which I first entered it… with something inspired by who else? Yes, Quantic! Plus it’s Friday, and you could use a nice release from that BS nine to five or seven to tenner that keeps you from… …rambling once again.
Where was I? Oh yeah, Quantic.. Well, a few years ago, William Holland (to avoid the redundancy of saying, “Quantic”) got his hands on a couple of mixes from this young German DJ by the name of Niko Schabel and he was impressed with what ze kid could do! So he began to promote him by passing copies of his mixes to producers, other DJ’s, club owners, promoters, the homeless guy behind Arby’s, and pretty much anyone who he ran into - I do not know that last bit to be a fact, however.
Before long, Niko changed his stage name to Radio Citizen, signed a pretty nice record deal, and voila - he made it into our blog!!
Enjoy it! It’s Friday!
Miami lost itself during Radiohead’s US Tour massive kick-off
Radiohead kicked off in Miami their latest US Tour with a mind-blowing performance in the American Airlines Arena which included a setlist of 24 songs, mainly from their latest 2 albums “The King of Limbs” and “In Rainbows”, and of course, some of their greatest hits that were perfectly revealed in their two encores plus a premiere of two songs “Identikit” and “Cut a Hole”.
Thom Yorke, along with Jonny Greenwood, Ed O’Brien, and Phil Selway, were joined since the first song with a classy addition to their number: Clive Deamer from Portishead in the drums. It was a brilliant performance since the first song, “Bloom”, which was in fact a perfect start for this epic show. Piano came in and the beautiful “Daily Mail” with it. By the third song of the show, their mission was to burn the place, which they did with a three-fiery-knockout picks: “Morning Mr. Magpie”, “Staircase” and the insanely phenomenal “National Anthem”. Later arrived “Meeting in the Aisle” from Airbag’s EP played live for the first time ever then “Kid A”, “The Gloaming” and “Codex”.
What else could you expect from a band that redefined modern rock with their avant-garde explorations that are mirrored in every of their albums? A show filled with a vibe and a magic that could only be spread by Radiohead’s Thom Yorke. The visuals were absolutely stunning, especially during the next song “You and whose army” where Yorke interacted with the crowd in a very particular and creepy way, portraying that trademark: the dark, deep and troubled soul that this band has reflected to have over the years.
Then “Nude” came in, another great song chosen from “In Rainbows”, that organically made the audience give Yorke some support in his wonderful vocals. Amazing. Perfect timing for one of the two songs they debuted in this first date with the American audience: a song called “Identikit”, a well executed, heavy-electronic infused song with vocals competing between Yorke and O’Brien that was well received by the audience who started getting wild as Yorke grabbed the maracas and performed “Lotus Flower” with his signature dance moves. It was the turn for “There, There” from their album “Hail to the thief” started and magic, exactly that came out from the drums.
Then they flashed their pedigree, with a master-class of electronic performance by a band on a stage in “Feral”, “Idioteque” and “Separator”, Mind-blowing everyone in the audience for sure.
First encore: time to play the “greatest hits” card, or maybe “amazingly-huge-greatest hits” card. “Airbag” was the one. The result of this play: the crowd going absolutely insane. And to add a little bit more gasoline to the fire in the crowd, they played the hardest rock song they had in the “In Rainbows” inventory, “Bodysnatchers”. Absolutely no doubt about this moment being the climax of the show.
Once they’ve reached the maximum level possible, they debut the excellent downbeat “Cut a Hole”. Great song that makes Yorke’s voice shine as it should be, followed by the massive “Weird Fishes/Arpeggi”.
It was time for their second and final encore. “Give up the Ghost” was the first song, that they actually had to stop for a bit, but they picked it up and started again like nothing happened, masters of the art and without a pose. Then the last two of the cards they played in the first encore, “Reckoner” and of course, “Karma Police”, which was the final song of the evening, very well played and even better when Yorke left the audience singing along “I lost myself” while the band was waving the goodbye.
Everyone got lost afterwards.
Thank you Radiohead.

Video/Song Premiere
Arctic Monkeys - R U Mine?
The newest material of this band we fucking love. Great song, fun video. Respect.
Eugene McGuinness - Shotgun
This young brit-rocker mate has a really unique style: influenced by a huge range of artists he converts his learnings into his own craft, that made Domino Records sign him when he was almost 20 years old.
Now, after 7 years with the label, he has received great critics from indie reporters to the BBC.
Here’s the video from his latest single, “Shotgun”. The song and the visuals are both classy and impressively combined in this spy-movieish looking video.
Enjoy.
The Black Keys - “Gold on the Ceiling” VIDEO PREMIERE
From their latest album El Camino, Auerbach and Carney have released via the network that traded music for Junk TV MTV the video for the second single of the album, “Gold on the Ceiling”. Which easily is the flames on the rocket of the rise of this band to be on the top of America’s rock bands right now.
Great song and very good video with footage from their album release in NYC last year, that reflects the mind-blowing vibe that this duo release from the stage and that has earned them this great spot in which they are now.
Enjoy and sorry for the hiatus.
Keep on rockin’ people.
